About
I founded Moonlight Interests to pursue projects and ideas about which I’m passionate. Before starting the company, I was President and CEO of Local Sun Energy, a generator and retailer of solar powered electricity. With Local Sun, we developed Houston’s first solar farm and formed a partnership with MP2 Energy, a Shell subsidiary, to launch the first community solar program in an area served by retail energy choice. Before starting Local Sun, I was a Partner and President of Mobile Grid which designs and manufactures containerized solar generators and workspaces. Mobile Grid’s work includes projects in the US, Nigeria, Mexico, Haiti, and Antarctica for customers such as the City of Houston, Argonne National Laboratory, Coca-Cola, and NRG. I began my career in real estate with the development of 2410 Waugh Drive, a sustainable apartment building which we continue to operate in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood. Prior to these activities, I worked for ttweak, a multi-disciplinary communications and design firm, on projects such as the production of the film Interesting Times on the work of sociologist Dr. Stephen Klineberg of Rice University and worked in the Mayor’s Office for the City of Houston.
I am also a music enthusiast with an interest in vintage instruments and early recorded blues, jazz, folk, country and western, and rock and roll music. These and other influences rooted in art and history are foundational to my approach. I’ve served on the boards of Aurora Picture Show and Nameless Sound and am a current board member of the Houston Health Foundation.
Should you or your organization have an idea or project you are trying to get off the ground or need help in an existing effort, feel free to reach out anytime as we would love to learn more and hopefully work with you.
Thanks,
Joey Romano
